you see. You paint what you feel. Paint
with soul is of the fundamental sumi painting and calligraphy. Sumi calligraphy reaches for
the optimal level of expression with dynamic, free yet the most strict
soul controlled brush strokes. The
simplicity but spiritual richness is the law of sumi. In this workshop, you will be
introduced an authentic oriental perception of which to approach and feel
the “object” you want to express in sumi style through your playful,
tender inner world. Also, you will be introduced to the philosophy and theory of sumi painting and calligraphy. Brief history of seal carving and usage of chops will be lectured. Demo and hands-on individual instruction are the teaching method of the workshop. You will be assured of learning some basic skills and techniques of sumi painting. Two-day Workshop (Sample)Day One: From 10:0 0 am to 4:00 pm (one hour lunch break) - Philosophy of sumi painting and calligraphy - Demo - Knowledge of sumi materials - How to paint bamboo, orchid, grapes, etc. - Hands-on calligraphy practice - Sumi painting composition - Critique Day Two: From 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (one hour lunch break) - Advanced techniques of strokes - Continued composition (painting from real life) - “In Between”-Realistic & Abstract (visualization, expressive painting by Qi) - History of chop carving - Usage of chops - Lecture of landscape painting *Materials not included.
